WASHINGTON – Today, President Trump is set to sign the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). As leaders like the majority of the Democratic presidential candidates celebrate the deal as a win, Food & Water Action adamantly opposes it.

p align=”center”>Food & Water Action Executive Director Wenonah Hauter said,

“President Trump’s one big purpose for USMCA is to restore domestic manufacturing, but this deal will not stop the hemorrhaging of American manufacturing jobs to Mexico and other low wage paying countries. Meanwhile, USMCA will increase dirty energy use and globalize new precedents of worse food safety protections that mean more life-threatening diseases in meat and poultry products lining the shelves of our grocery stores. There’s no doubt about it: USMCA is not a deal, it’s a freebee for industry and a death sentence for American consumers, our air and water, and our environment.”
