Democrats still don’t have final results from the Iowa caucuses — two days after voters expected to learn who had early momentum in the 2020 presidential race. As of Tuesday, only 71% of precincts had reported their final tallies. Democratic officials cited problems with a newly created app built by a firm called Shadow that was supposed to help precincts report results. The Democratic Party in Nevada was also planning to use the app during its upcoming caucuses but abandoned that plan on Tuesday. Lee Fang, a reporter with The Intercept, says the company was formed out of the ashes of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, widely viewed as having been beaten by the Trump campaign’s digital operations. “They promised a robust response to the Trump agenda, to face Trump in 2020,” Fang says. “They used their leverage with high-level Democratic donors, Democratic establishment types, to quickly secure this contract … to deploy this app.”
