How undeclared voters can shift the outcome of the New Hampshire primary

On Tuesday, voters head to the polls for the first presidential primary in New Hampshire, following the disputed final results of the Iowa caucuses. After an unexpectedly low voter turnout in Iowa, longtime radio host and former gubernatorial candidate Arnie Arnesen says she expects to see “a huge turnout” of voters in the northeastern state, noting young people’s enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders. But in the hours leading up to the polls, many people still appear to be undecided about their choice of candidate. “I have never seen a more fluid electorate,” Arnesen tells Democracy Now! Democratic candidates have a particular stake in courting independent voters in New Hampshire, who constitute almost half of eligible voters in the state. For some people, the choice in the presidential primary can be traced to a concern with electability. “It is not about agenda,” Arnesen says. “It is about Trump.”
