Police in Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, detained dozens of activists ahead of planned protests by two opposition groups. Activists from the unregistered Democratic Party shouted “Freedom!” as police detained them not far from a central square on February 22 where supporters of the party were planning to hold an unsanctioned rally.
