Russia is canceling flights to many European destinations as it seeks to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Russian state-owned airline Aeroflot announced on March 11 that it will cancel flights to 18 European cities in four countries starting on March 13 and running until the end of April.

The four countries include Italy, Spain, France, and Germany, each of which have more than 1,000 reported cases of the virus.

Italy, a top destination for Russian tourists, has been among the worst-hit countries in the world, with more than 10,000 reported cases of the new coronavirus.

Russia has about only 20 confirmed cases, several of whom contracted the disease while traveling in Italy.

The coronavirus outbreak has infected more than 117,000 people globally and killed over 4,200.

The World Health Organization publicly described the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic for the first time on March 11.
