The University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ announced in an email to all staff minutes ago that it will be institution a furlough for the following employees:

Leadership positions (those making 150k or more) will continue to receive a paycheck during the time when other staff will not, which has caused some staff to question the motives of the action.

Helena Rodriguez, VP and Chief Human Resources Officer, explained, “The goal here is to protect the institution to the extent possible” while fielding questions from staff about using vacation days during a furlough. Unfortunately, for those who make less than $44,449 annually they are being forced to take unpaid days, while some employees still make more than $200,000.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more updates are available.
