When Russia seized Crimea in 2014, the Ukrainian Navy was dealt a devastating blow. Russian took more than two-thirds of Ukraine’s naval vessels and 75 percent of Ukraine’s sailors quit or defected.
Why did so many betray their country? What motivated those few who remained loyal? And could Ukraine’s navy ever recover?
