As vaccine developers worldwide report that early trials of new coronavirus vaccines are showing promising results, director of Harvard University’s Global Health Institute Dr. Ashish Jha says the creation of a vaccine is merely the first step in a series of actions to ensure widespread coronavirus immunity. Even after a vaccine — or multiple — has been tested and approved, he anticipates “a huge set of production issues, a huge set of distribution issues [and] equity issues.” Ensuring that people around the world, regardless of geography or wealth, are able to access the vaccination is not only crucial, but going to require “global coordination [and] global solidarity,” says Jha.
