Next week marks ten years of the war in Syria. And in this past decade, attacks on healthcare facilities have tragically become a hallmark of the conflict.
Even though health facilities are protected under international law, attacks have persisted, destroying hospitals, killing medical personnel, and preventing many from accessing lifesaving care—including during the pandemic.
70% of the health workforce has fled, but, every day, the remaining Syrian medical practitioners continue to risk their lives to provide health care in the midst of horrific violence, despite a lack of equipment and medication.
Dr. Taher is one of these brave doctors.
Dr. Taher, who works at a hospital supported by the IRC, @EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid and the Syrian Expatriate Medical Association, has been under attack while working three times. This is his story.
