Video of child beaten inside madrasa is from Bangladesh

Shringi Yadav was arrested from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh after a video of him mercilessly beating a Muslim boy for drinking water from a temple emerged on social media.

Now a 30-second video has been shared that shows a Muslim man thrashing a minor inside a room that appears to be a madrasa. The clip is circulating on the Indian social media ecosystem with people questioning why isn’t the maulvi’s action condemned.

“Those who talk about the water in the temple incident should also speak up about this madrasa thrashing. Messengers of peace” – is the most widespread message on Twitter and Facebook. Twitter user @AmitaSoni3 and a Facebook page shared the viral along with this caption in Hindi.

It was also posted by Twitter user @SurgicalWay and @YOGIJAIHIND2. The latter’s tweet was retweeted over 800 times.

Twitter user @RDXThinksThat quote-tweeted the video while tagging multiple Indian media outlets. Right-wing propaganda website Kreately wrote, “Why UP govt wants CCTVs in madrasas,” suggesting the video is from India.

Video from Bangladesh

Alt News performed a keyword search on Google and found that the incident took place in Bangladesh on March 9. It was reported by The Daily Star, TBS News and Dhaka Tribune. As per the reports, Maulana Yahya attacked the minor in Markazul Islami Academy Hafezia Madrasa at Chattogram’ Hathazari Sadar.

TBS News reported that Yahya was arrested by Hathazari Police after the student’s father had filed a case. He was also sacked from the institution according to The Daily Star.

Dhaka Tribune reported that the High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin directed all educational institutions in the country, including madrasas, to abide by the constitution and the prevalent laws.

A video of a child abuse incident in a madrasa in Bangladesh was shared by social media users against the backdrop of a Muslim boy beaten inside a temple in India.
