WASHINGTON – Following today’s Senate confirmation of Shalanda Young as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and the need to fill the top slot at the agency, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“People For the American Way offers its full support for Ms. Shalanda Young who, if nominated as director of the Office of Management and Budget, would be the first African American woman to lead the agency and ensure that all federal agencies are implementing the priorities of the president and the values of the American people. President Biden has shown his commitment to nominating individuals committed to advancing policies that help all Americans and this critical position is no exception. We know that Ms. Young’s accomplishments helping Congress navigate an end to government shutdowns, her expertise as a budget and public health analyst at the National Institutes of Health, and her familiarity with federal agencies demonstrate that she is more than qualified to lead OMB. Ms. Young will bring a high level of knowledge and experience that will help create a bright future for the entire nation.”
