Video of large funeral procession at UP madrasa shared as Iftar gathering in Hyderabad

A video of a massive crowd of people from the Muslim community gathered in a madrasa has been shared with the claim that it shows an Iftar gathering hosted in Hyderabad.

“Those criticising Kumbh, also comment on this Iftar gathering in Hyderabad,” reads the accompanying message.

It is also circulating on Twitter with the same claim.

The video was earlier quote-tweeted by actor Kangana Ranaut as Ramzan gathering. She later took down her tweet but an archive can be viewed here.

A user had also tweeted the video with #BanRamzanGatherings.

While thousands of people indeed gathered in a madrasa, flouting COVID protocols, the video isn’t related to Ramzan. It shows Salat al-Janazah (Islamic funeral ritual) held on April 16 after the death of Maulana Abdul Momin.
