West Bengal assembly polls were held in eight phases from March 27 to April 29. The ruling TMC led by Mamata Banerjee retained power in the state.

Several other people on Twitter have also posted the video with the same caption.

It has also been shared on Facebook.

Alt News has received a few requests on its Whatsapp number (7600011160) to verify the clip.

Video from UP: Crowd is chanting ‘Haji saab zindabad’

Alt News had recently debunked a similar claim where people in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich were heard chanting ‘Haji saab zindabad’ after the victory of Panchayat elections candidate Haji Abdul Kalim. Media outlet News18 among a few other outlets reported that his supporters were raising ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans. The video shared recently is from the same occasion.

If one listens carefully, the crowd says, “Haji saab zindabad. Humara pradhan kaisa ho? Haji saab jaisa ho.”

A slow-motion video of News18’s erroneously broadcast earlier this month has been attached below. ‘Haji saab’ is clearly audible here as well.

Bahraich police had also put out a tweet rubbishing the claims that ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans were raised at the procession. “The truth is that in the victory procession, the supporters of the newly-elected pradhan only raised slogans of ‘Haji Saab zindabad’ NOT Pakistan zindabad. This is clear upon closely listening to the audio of the viral video clip,” the police statement said.

Alt News reached out to Haji Abdul Rahim, the brother of Haji Abdul Kalim. He said, “The viral claims on social media are false. As soon as the results came out, I was leaving from there and supporters started raising ‘Haji Saab zindabad’ slogans. We didn’t take out any procession. If that were the case, we would have gone out everywhere. As soon as the counting of the votes concluded, I came home and the supporters present at the location followed me. My brother reached home in the evening, till then he was present at the party office.”

We also sent the recent video to Rahim and asked if he is the man seen with garlands. “Yes, I am wearing a light pink kurta in the video and it was shot near my residence,” he confirmed.

Therefore, a video from Uttar Pradesh that shows people chanting ‘Haji saab zindabad’ was shared as 31 Rohingya who contested West Bengal elections sloganeered ‘Pakistan zindabad’ after winning.
