Bob Moses served as field secretary for SNCC, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and helped register thousands of voters across Mississippi. He also headed the Council of Federated Organizations, and in 1964 helped create the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and organize the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project. Moses went on to found the Algebra Project, devoted to improving access to education, particularly in math, for students of color. In October 2010, Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzalez interviewed Moses after the publication of a book he co-edited, “Quality Education as a Constitutional Right: Creating a Grassroots Movement to Transform Public Schools.”
