A news bulletin from media outlet Republic on July 21 claimed that Bangladeshi Islamist political party, Jamaat-e-Islami, had openly expressed support for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20, further linking it to an alleged “anti-India toolkit”.
“Was this a coordinated effort by this anti-India toolkit..?” asks the reporter in the bulletin, referring to the youth-led protests, alleging that the same “toolkit” was employed during Shaheen Bagh, Red Fort, and other protests. Additionally, the anchor claims that CJP “goons” and “hooligans” attacked police personnel, resulting in injuries to several “innocent” officers.

The bulletin cites an alleged “letter” or a “formal note” from the Jamaat-e-Islami supporting the students protesting in India. An image purportedly showing the “letter” dated July 21, 2026, allegedly issued by the Jamaat-e-Islami, claiming their support for the student movement in India, has been widely circulated on social media.
Media outlet New18 published an article with the viral image of the letter titled ‘Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami Sent ‘Support Letter’ To Delhi Protesters? Exclusive From Intel Sources’. “Agencies are verifying the authenticity of the letter, but officials underline that any involvement of foreign political or ideological groups warrants close scrutiny,” read the strapline of the report.
Similarly, NewsX in their bulletin amplified the viral image to claim that the CJP protest had international links to it.
On July 21, several pro-BJP X handles shared the letter claiming Jamaat’s support to the CJP. Among them are Megh Updates (@MeghUpdates), The Jaipur Dialogues (@JaipurDialogues), Kreately.in (@KreatelyMedia), and Rishi Bagree (@rishibagree), and others.
It is worth noting that these X handles — MeghUpdates, The Jaipur Dialogues, Rishi Bagree and Kreately Media — have been repeatedly found shared misinformation and communal propaganda in the past.

Upon closer inspection, Alt News found several discrepancies in the purported letter. First, the spelling of Bangladesh in the header is misspelt as “Bangladeshe”.
Further, the logo in the letterhead does not match the logo of the Jamaat-e-Islami party.
Further, we noted that the official X account of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had released a statement squarely denying the authenticity of the letter, labelling it as forged. “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami denounces forged letter circulating on social media; demands immediate halt to malicious propaganda,” read their statement.
They pointed out that the document did not include their official registered address or a reference number, both of which are essential features of any official communication issued by the party. The statement also noted that the overall format and design did not align with the letterhead used by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Alt News additionally ran the image through multiple AI-detection tools like SightEngine, Hive Moderation and TruthScan. All the findings indicated that the letter was likely AI-generated.
To sum up, the claims that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami extended their solidarity to India’s ongoing students’ movement led by the CJP are false. The letter, which is being shared on social media as evidence of this claim is fake and most likely artificially generated. News organisations like Republic, News 18 and NewsX have misreported and amplified these claims without verification.
