An image of a purported circular from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is viral on social media with claims that some changes have been introduced effective August 15, 2025, for the sake of privacy and data security. The notification states that the name of the father or husband of an individual will no longer be mentioned on the Aadhaar card if s/he is above 18 years of age. And that only the address and year of birth of the Aadhar card holder would be mentioned on the card, not the day and month of their birth.

A number of YouTube channels, websites, social media users and journalists have been promoting the claim that UIDAI is rolling out new changes from August 15.

X user @imhussi shared the picture and made the same claim, calling it a big news update related to Aadhaar card.

Journalist and founder of Chowk Media Ankit Tiwadi also promoted the image with the same claim from his verified X handle, alongside several other users on Facebook, Instagram and X

A number of YouTube channels, including Technicalwale Hausla, Vk Sir Masti, New Update online, as well as aimamedia.org, basicshikshakhabar.com and merahaknews.com, ran stories amplifying the changes in Aadhaar cards. They claimed that from August 15 onwards, the details such as husband and father’s names of adults as well as the full birthday would be removed from the cards.

Fact-check

Alt News performed a keyword search using relevant keywords to verify the viral claim. However, we did not find any specific news report or source that confirmed these claims. Apart from this, we also searched on the official website and social media handles of the UIDAI, including its Instagram, Facebook, and X accounts, but did not find any information about the alleged removal of information from the Aadhaar cards from August 15 onwards.

Following this, we reached out to the UIDAI helpline number. An official from the UIDAI denied the viral claim and clarified that no such move had been implemented. The official also mentioned that adding ‘Care of’ (C/O)’ details in the Aadhaar card is optional. If an individual wants to record this information, they can so by attaching documents of their mother, father, or head of the family along with the Aadhaar card. However, this is optional and the ‘Care of’ section can also be left blank.

Apart from this, after a careful examination of the viral picture, we noticed that there was no date in the notification issued in the picture and neither did it contain the name or digital signature of the officer or individual who issued the information. The image below illustrates the difference between the viral image and a genuine official circular from the UIDAI.

In other words, the viral notification is fake. So are the purported updates that it announces. No notification has been issued by the UIDAI which introduces changes in the card-holder’s details mentioned on Aadhaar.
