A video clip displaying Union home minister Amit Shah stating that the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) would assist India in retrieving Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is being widely circulated on social media platforms.
Founded in 2023, the JAAC is reportedly a grassroots coalition and socio-political organisation of civil-society members in PoK.
In the video, Shah states that PoK is part of India, thus both Hindus and Muslims residing there are Indians. Then the video appears to show Shah saying, “The JAAC will help us get back PoK”.
A Pakistan-based Facebook user, Amir Hassan Qureshi, shared the purported clip claiming that Shah had explicitly stated that “the Joint Awami Action Committee will play a role in India’s occupation of Azad Kashmir.”
On June 7, 2026, the same person made a similar post on X.

Another X user, Shirmeen Khurram, who identifies herself as the associate director of MKT Express Media, further shared the clip alleging that Shah had ‘openly declared’ that Awami Action Committee will ‘play a role in facilitating India’s occupation of Azad Kashmir’.

Further, an Instagram user, Mateen Ahmed Abbasi, shared a similar video asserting that Shah had admitted that the JAAC is ‘fomenting chaos in Azad Kashmir at the behest of India’.
Fact Check
Upon closely examining the video, we noticed that the microphone Shah is holding has “India Today Conclave 2024” written on it.

Based on that finding, we conducted a simple keyword search on YouTube, leading us to the original video that was published first on March 15, 2024, on the official India Today Conclave page.
In the video, starting at the 33:26 timestamp, Shah addresses PoK, declaring it as part of India. He states, “Pak-occupied Kashmir is a part of India. There is no question about Hindu or Muslim. All the Muslims and Hindus residing there are ours (Indians).”
Following this, journalist Rahul Kanwal highlights the significance of Shah’s statement. The home minister then interjects, “I have said this in Parliament as well, and I will say it again. Pak-occupied Kashmir is a part of India. The Muslims and Hindus there are ours,” prompting applause from the audience.
Shah did not make any other statements regarding JAAC or suggest that it would play a role in India reclaiming PoK.
Additionally, we found the manipulated clip, which first went viral, uploaded as a short by Business Today on YouTube.
Further, there are no credible reports or any official statement by Shah solidifying this claim.
Conclusively, the video clip claiming that Shah stated that JAAC would help India to retrieve PoK is inauthentic. The original video has been digitally manipulated, with fabricated synthetic audio.
