“Filipiñana”: Dark Satire Takes Aim at Inequality & Structural Violence in the Philippines

Filipino filmmaker Rafael Manuel discusses his debut feature film “Filipiñana.” Set at an upscale golf country club outside Manila, the film explores inequality, colonialism, structural violence and patriarchy. “Filipiñana” premiered at Sundance where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision. It opens in New York at Film Forum on Friday.
